How do we work together?
Our strategy sessions are conducted over the phone and/or a video call. We will exchange information over email and I also provide unlimited email and text support. If you live in the Southern California area, I'm happy to meet you in person for our first session so we can put a face and personality to each other.
What is your process?
For job search clients who have purchased a whole package, my process is*:
- 1st: Determine where you want to go - what are looking for - what is your career direction? I describe it as 'what lane are you in?'
- 2nd: Once we've defined what you want, then we work on crafting your documents, including your resume, so it speaks to not only what you've done, but also where you want to go. Documents can also include cover letters, networking 1-pagers and executive bios.
- 3rd: After we've crafted a resume we're both happy with, then I'll create/update your LinkedIn profile based on the new information we've crafted on your new resume.
- 4th: Next comes networking - we will craft and work on your networking skills and messaging/branding so that you feel fully comfortable getting out there having conversations.
- 5th: Once we've got the above foundation laid, then we move into job search strategies: how do you find the opportunities that you want?
- 6th: At this point, the phone WILL start ringing and we move into interview preparation. We'll do video or phone mock interviews until you are completely comfortable entering into your interviews.
- 7th: From this point on, I'm here to support you, keep you accountable and motivated.
- 8th: After you have received an offer, I support you all the way through negotiating your offer.
What makes you different?
Here are a few differences between me and other Career Coaches:
- Most Career Coaches don't do hardcore job search coaching, i.e. they don't write resumes, cover letters or online profiles. They don't do interview coaching or know how to coach you around job search strategies. Most Career Coaches only want to talk to you about 'what' you want to do ("Let's figure out what your bliss is") and they don't coach you on 'how' to get your perfect position. There's nothing wrong with figuring out your 'bliss', but you probably need more.
- Other sites that provide 'job search support' sign you up and then throw information at you. IF they provide 1-on-1 support, it's offered as a Bonus as a 1 time only conversation OR they offer 1-on-1 support for an ADDITIONAL charge. Don't be fooled by low monthly costs - you will never have any contact with a real person. I don't believe that's the best way to support you - your situation is unique and you need support that is tailored exclusively for you and your situation.
- I understand business and the world of work - for over 20 years I worked in corporate america in positions where I was responsible to the bottom line of the business and I had to interact with every group in the business: finance, engineering, accounting, IT, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, customer service, shipping/receiving. I understand business, the role each position plays in the organization's success and what it takes to get those positions.
- In addition to my Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, I have my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling - so I understand the psychological and emotional toll this process is taking on you and I can address it with you. While our work together is NOT therapy, I can help you move through your road blocks and what you need to overcome in order to be successful in your job search and career.
- I know what it's like to make a REALLY BIG career change. The decision to leave my corporate career to go out on my own was probably the hardest thing I've ever done in my life, so I understand the courage it takes, the strategy that needs to be in place and the tactical steps required.
How long does this take?
Everyone is different and, of course, I can't guarantee a specific time frame, title, level or salary, HOWEVER, I keep stats on how quickly my clients land. As of May 2014, my clients have landed in an average of 15.6 weeks*. Now that may seem long to you, but if you look at the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average job search as of May 2014 for full-time employment is taking 35.9 weeks. My success record reveals, on average, I can help you get hired 57% faster.

What about the money?
I understand your concern about spending money when money is tight. A couple of thoughts around this:
get the support you need to get back to work sooner!
- What is it costing you each week NOT to work? $1,000, $2,000, $3000 or more?
- Let's say I can help you cut off 1 month, 2 months or 3 months from your job search. Getting you back to work earlier is then worth how much to you? If starting work 1 month earlier is worth $4K or more, starting 2 months earlier may be worth $8K+ and starting 3 months earlier may be worth $12K+!

- Your job search expenses may be tax deductible. Make sure you keep track of ALL of your job search expenses and consult your tax specialist.
- The work we do together will help you not only in your current job search, but it will also support you and provide value for the rest of your working life and career. What's that worth?
