How Solid is Your Foundation?

We've recently had 2 severe earthquakes on the globe: Jan 12, 2010 in Haiti and Feb 27, 2010 in Chile.  No doubt that the devastation and loss of life is tragic in both, however, the destruction in Chile was significantly less than in Haiti, even though the quake in Chile was reportedly 500 times stronger than the quake in Haiti. 

This difference in the damage and ruin has made me think about the foundation employees have BEFORE they start looking for a new position.  A rock-solid, earthquake proof foundation consists of, in part: 

• an up-to- date resume
• an active and engaged network
• always being prepared to interview
• financial resources to see you through a leaner time
  

Job seekers who have built a solid infrastructure in advance of needing it  experience significantly less destruction, devastation, damage and ruin.  Period, end of story.  So how solid is your foundation?
